Modern dentistry begins with accurate, consistent and clinically relevant patient
data acquisition. With Zirkonzahn’s fully integrated digital workflow, dentists
and dental technicians can generate a complete 3D virtual model – seamlessly,
efficiently, and without information loss.

The
workflow starts with high-precision intraoral scans using the Detection Eye
intraoral scanner. With outstanding accuracy and speed, the patient’s jaw can
be digitised in less than 60 seconds. Real-time scanning in realistic colours
and detailed margin capture provide a reliable digital foundation for the
entire treatment process.

Next, the
patient’s maxilla position is recorded in Natural Head Position (NHP) using the
Head Tracker digital facebow (fig. 1). This contactless, fully digital solution
captures reference planes and maxillary orientation directly via smartphone
using the Zirkonzahn.App. Unlike conventional analogue methods, the Head
Tracker enables digital data acquisition from the very beginning.

For
enhanced clinical control and reproducibility, the Head Tracker can be used in
combination with the PlaneFinder® (MDT Udo Plaster). This proven system allows
the precise detection of the patient’s individual reference planes, including
the midline and the zero-degree reference plane. By accurately capturing the
spatial position of the maxilla and transferring it into both the physical and
virtual articulator, the PlaneFinder® supports a treatment planning process
that reflects the patient’s true anatomical situation. The result is a reliable
and consistent transfer of clinical data, contributing to functional balance
 and aesthetic harmony.

To
complement the dataset, the workflow integrates facial information through the
Face Hunter 3D facial scanner (fig. 2). Within seconds, the patient’s
physiognomy is captured in high resolution. Multiple angles and phonetic
expressions can be scanned to create a photo-realistic digital representation.
This allows dental technicians to design restorations in harmony with the
patient’s facial features, significantly improving aesthetic predictability and
 enhancing communication during consultation.

All
acquired data are then seamlessly transferred into Zirkonzahn.Software and
automatically aligned within the virtual articulator. The result is a fully
synchronised 3D virtual patient that accurately reproduces both oral and
 extra-oral conditions.

By
eliminating manual transfer steps and reducing potential sources of error, this
digital ecosystem strengthens collaboration between clinic and laboratory while
enhancing diagnostic quality, aesthetic planning, and functional accuracy.

From first
scan to final design, Zirkonzahn offers a comprehensive digital workflow that
transforms patient analysis into a precise, streamlined process – enabling
predictable, patient-specific restorations with high treatment reliability
while improving interdisciplinary communication, reducing chairside
adjustments, supporting long-term treatment stability, and enhancing
efficiency in daily clinical and laboratory routines.
